
Islam Mohamed
Dr. Islam Mohamed is a seasoned Radiation Oncologist, clinical researcher, and biotechnology advisor whose career reflects a combination of scientific depth and strategic perspective. He earned an Honours BSc in Genetics before completing his medical degree at the University of Alberta and residency training in Radiation Oncology at the Cross Cancer Institute. Since beginning his practice at BC Cancer in 2000, he has built broad clinical expertise across lung, breast, skin, and sarcoma oncology.
Dr. Mohamed has paired frontline patient care with contributions to clinical research and trial leadership. His experience includes service on institutional research ethics boards, participation on Canadian Cancer Trials Group disease site committees, and involvement in clinical trials at local and provincial levels. His work has focused on areas that increasingly define the future of cancer care, including optimizing stereotactic radiosurgery, treating oligometastatic disease, integrating immunotherapy, and incorporating genomic tools such as circulating tumour DNA to guide clinical decision-making.
Complementing his clinical and research career, Dr. Mohamed has become a thoughtful participant in Canada’s biotechnology sector, advising and investing in companies developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. He currently serves as Advisor to illumiSonics, and Chief Medical Officer of Onco-Innovations.
