illumiSonics and Sunnybrook Launch INOVAIT-Funded Clinical Trial Evaluating Label-Free Laser Histology in Mohs Surgery

Waterloo, ON – July 20, 2026 – illumiSonics is pleased to announce the launch of a new clinical trial in collaboration with Sunnybrook Research Institute, supported by funding from the INOVAIT Focus Fund.
This prospective study will evaluate illumiSonics' proprietary Multi-Laser Imaging (MLI™) platform during Mohs micrographic surgery for skin cancer. The trial will compare MLI™ virtual histology with conventional frozen-section pathology to assess the technology's ability to provide rapid, label-free tissue imaging that may support intraoperative decision-making.
Unlike traditional histology workflows, MLI™ generates high-resolution tissue images without staining or destructive sample preparation, preserving tissue for downstream molecular analysis while providing detailed structural information.
This clinical trial represents an important milestone in the translation of MLI™ technology from research to clinical practice and reflects illumiSonics' commitment to advancing innovative imaging solutions for cancer diagnostics.
